International Women’s Day 2021
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
In the 110 years since IWD’s first gathering, it’s been supported by over a million people.
IWD’s 2021 Theme - #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021
A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.
Non-Profit Organizations Helping Women
There are many international non-profit organizations working tirelessly for the betterment of women around the world. Let’s highlight a few:
Women’s Environmental & Development Organization (WEDO)
To contribute toward its vision for the world, WEDO’s mission is to ensure that women’s rights; social, economic and environmental justice; and sustainable development principles-as well as the linkages between them-are at the heart of global and national policies, programs and practices.
BRAC fights against the obstacles that prevent children in developing countries from receiving a quality education including violence, discrimination, displacement and extreme poverty. Although BRAC works to help every child, the organization focuses especially on women and girls and making sure they have the ability to take control of their own lives.
Women for Women’s global community invests in women survivors of war and conflict, providing them with social and economic skills to transform their own lives. Women pass their knowledge to those around them, creating a more just world—a world where every woman’s voice, role, and contribution are visible and valued.
International Women’s Health Coalition
In order to achieve gender justice,** IWHC advances the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and adolescent girls, by:
· Funding and supporting feminist leaders, organizations, and movements, primarily in the Global South.
· Advocating for international and US policies, programs, and funding, and holding governments to their commitments.
· Generating knowledge and leading dialogues on critical and emergent issues.
**Transforming political, cultural, legal, and economic systems and structures to support the dignity and self-determination of all, through the explicit lens of gender, gender identity or expression, and expression of sexuality.
Alliance for International Women’s Rights
The Alliance’s mission is to support women’s rights efforts in developing countries by developing a network of professionals in developed countries who are willing to use their skills and experience to help promote women’s rights.
Global Fund for Women funds bold, ambitious, and expansive gender justice movements to create meaningful change that will last beyond our lifetimes.
Center for Reproductive Rights
The Center for Reproductive Rights uses the power of law to advance reproductive rights as fundamental human rights around the world.
